Interior Firefighter
To be an active member of the Macungie VFD you must be 18 years of age. There are several weeks of training that the department requires before you will be pressed into active service. Fighting fires is not all we do, we respond to several kinds of emergencies. These include car accidents, medical assistance to the Ambulance Corps, pump outs due to floods, search and rescue assists and several other types of incidents.
Upon joining all firefighters will receive basic training in Engine Operations, SCBA, gear and Fire Safety and must pass a qualification exam prior to being able to respond to calls. After your initial qualification the department will pay for all advanced training. The department expects all firefighters to earn their PA FireFighterI certification.
